Castles

There are over 300 castles, stately homes and
ruins dotting the landscape in Moray and Aberdeenshire,
many open to the public and some free to wander around.

This area has its own Castle Trail,
highlighting 19 of the most famous and dramatic castles
in the region, including Balmoral and Braemar.

Although hidden from sight by trees, the ruin of
Auchindoun Castle, just across the valley from Moray Cottages
is a lovely ruin to wander around and on a clear day,
the views of the surrounding countryside are fantastic.
